MIST
"Muslim Interscholastic Tournament" is a series of competitions held annually in different regions of the U.S where high school students from MSAs, Islamic Schools, and Mosques construct teams and strive to show their worth. Students go head to head representing those teams in a variety of competitions all orbiting an interchanging theme. The core derivative of MIST is to unite teens in America and instill in their hearts Akhlaq (Character). It's an event where bonds are made, talents are manifested, and competitors are rewarded.
Rewinding 13 years, MIST was a mere thought in the mind of Shazia Siddiqi, a freshman from the University of Houston. She invisioned an event that would empower high school students by allowing them to put their skills to the test while simultaneously absorbing knowledge emitted from fellow competitors. The first ever MIST commenced the following year composed of only 118 people. Over the years however, this tournament gained popular acceptance and flourished. Today there are over 5000 students competing nationwide.
How to join MIST:
-
The students in the high school must create or join the MIST team from their own school. All the students must register together as a whole under one team.
-
The few students who would to join MIST can still have the oppurtunity to represent their high school if the MSA does not choose to join the tournament.
-
If your high school does not have an MSA, you can attempt to form an Islamic educational organization that would be open to students or faculty of any gender, natoional origin, or religion.
